Tord Reklev (on the right side) finished day one of the TCG Masters with 9 victories.

Four TCG Masters with really good performances on Day 1 were asked about their decks and their preferences at the Pokémon Regional Championships in Cologne.

Stephane Ivanoff (France)

What kind of deck do you play and why?

I play Gardevoir and Sylveon GX. The deck has a lot of good match-ups and is especially strong against Malamar.

Do you have a favorite card?

Not really, but Tag switch is really good so far. I like it a lot.

What‘s your tech card of choice?

The third reset stemp is my choice, it isn‘t a tech card but the third copy of the card helps big time. For example against Welder it is really strong and can win games.

What‘s your favorite trainer card?

Right now I really don‘t have a favorite card. I play 46 trainers in the deck, so basically every single one is important to help me out.

What is the most annoying card or deck for you to play against?

Reshiram and Charizard decks with abilities. I can‘t to much against it.

Do you have a favorite Pokémon?

Farfetch‘d is definitely my favorite. The new evolution is cool as well, it could have been way more worse.

If you could change the future of the TCG, what would be your wish?

Please bring back evolutions. Right now there are big basics everywhere. Because of that the diversity of competitive decks declined. I guess Malamar is the only viable evolution at the moment.

Philip Schulz (Germany)

What kind of deck do you play and why?

I play Pikachu and Zekrom GX. The deck is still really good, maybe even better than before. With the additional attackers the flexibility makes it strong. And with Jirachi you got a lot of consistency as well.

Do you have a favorite card?

At the moment that would be Pikachu and Zekrom.

What‘s your tech card of choice?

I play Erika‘s hospitality. It‘s not a tech on its own but the additional draw support helps.

What is the most annoying card or deck for you to play against?

My match-up against Gardevoir and Sylveon GX is bad. They can attach Lightning Fairy Charm and I pretty much lose against it. Otherwise the deck can perform really well against the rest of the competition.

If you could change the future of the TCG, what would be your wish?

I would like to have Matches in a Best-of-Two. Draws are a pretty big deal in this game with the given time. A 2:0 victory should count two points and a 1:1 gives one point to each of the players.

Vinnie Schelfhaut (Belgium)

What kind of deck do you play and why?

Gardevoir and Sylveon GX is my deck. I play it with Wait and See Hammer, because I really like the card and it can annoy a lot of opponents. It worked really well for example against Pikachu and Zekrom. I like the deck, maybe with a Tier 1 deck i would have performed a little bit better. But I enjoyed it and it‘s not bad for my first Regional.

What‘s your tech card of choice?

Clearly it‘s Wait and See Hammer. And Mimikyu GX was funny as well. With the GX attack I shuffled a Pikarom with 6 energies into the deck.

What‘s your favorite trainer card?

Wait and See Hammer again (laughs).

What is the most annoying card or deck for you to play against?

Playing against Reshiram and Charizard as well as Welder Box. My match-ups against them are probably only 30:70.

Do you have a favorite Pokémon?

Not in particular, but I really like a lot of the Gen 1 Pokémon.

If you could change the future of the TCG, what would be your wish?

The support for fire should be less, grass and water need a bigger push. I guess that way it would be funnier.

Tord Reklev (Norway)

What kind of deck do you play and why?

My deck of choice is the Toolbox around Mewtwo and Mew GX. I play Shedinja as well, which helps a lot. Attached with this card Mewtwo and Mew GX only gives up two prizes instead of three. So my opponent would have to knock out three of them to win the game. That makes a big difference.

Honestly I didn‘t had high expectations going into the tournament. I build the deck just one week ago. But it works with Shedinja and the surprise factor is a pretty big deal.

Do you have a favorite card?

My favorite is Mewtwo and Mew GX

What‘s your tech card of choice?

Reds Challenge. I can have this supporter for the turn, because my deck allows me to have a bit more time. And so I can have the exact card I want.

What is the most annoying card or deck for you to play against?

Lysandre Labs can be a problem. Because with the right timing the opponent blocks my Shedinja and get‘s three prizes by knocking out Mewtwo and Mew GX. Besides of that the deck performs really good.

If you could change the future of the TCG, what would be your wish?

Evolutions need to come back. The pace of the game is way too fast right now. I like it a little bit slower. And if gaames last too long, you basiacally need to go to Best-of-Ones.
